Powerful Peers Cybersmart Observation

Back in February when I was at Panmure Bridge School I was asked by Robyn Anderson if I could deliver a Cybersmart lesson about blog commenting and threading.  As one of the Manaiakalani summer learning journey commenters I had noticed that PBS were VERY active in their participation but lacked somewhat in their comment threading and therefore (in my opinion) had not fulfilled their potential and capacity in the programme which addresses the "summer drop off".

I regularly support x3 classes at PBS and have a great professional connection with Robyn from when I was an in-school-CoL teacher whilst A.P at my previous school.  On this occasion one of my classes had been cancelled last minute, so over morning-tea Robyn asked if I could address her Y7/8 class to deep dive with them as to how and why this next step of blogging and commenting was SO important and valuable...

My intention is to check in with them in July, and then again in December, to see how their "threading" progress is developing and to realign any issues that have arisen.  This should then (in theory) place the students in an exceptional position for the SLJ 2020 and allow them to retain the Manaiakalani crown of 'top school' with a firmer foundation and greater understanding of blog commenting...

ENGAGE

So T2 W2 has seen me hangout x102 this week including management meetings, in-class-support, 1:1 support, Kapa Haka practise, Professional PD and a virtual assembly beside the numerous emails and telephone calls I've addressed.

It's been awesome, delightful, fun and included lots of extra screen time...

Y2 class at Point England School

Bilingual Class (Maori/English) at Tamaki Primary School

Exposed in the very first edition of the "Manaiakalani Mailout" are two of the twenty one classes I support through my weekly in-class-facilitation.  They are showcasing how teaching, learning, creating and sharing are still happening at this time of distance learning due to the current lockdown...they are pushing the educational boundaries at such at time as this.  Well done Heidi and Whaea Lee.

Term 2 Day 1 - from small seeds!

From small seeds come tall trees - or in this case avocados!

In the midst of the x16 hangouts I've jumped in and out of today supporting my teachers in this distance learning time I was delighted to receive an email tonight from a conversation many months ago about cultivating avocados...

Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose...

Zoom Meetings - that's why we use Google Hangouts!

C19 Spring Clean

The world it got so busy,
There were people all around.
They left their germs behind them;
In the air and on the ground.

These germs grew bigger and stronger.
They wanted to come and stay.
They didn’t want to hurt anyone -
They just really wanted to play.

Sometimes they tried to hold your hand,
Or tickled your throat or your nose.
They could make you cough and sneeze
And make your face as red as a rose.

And so these germs took over.
They started to make people ill,
And with every cough we coughed
More and more germs would spill.

All the queens and kings had a meeting.
“It’s time to clean the world up!” they said.
And so they had to close lots of fun stuff,
Just so these germs couldn’t spread.

We couldn’t go to cinemas
Or restaurants for our tea.
There was no football or parties,
The world got as quiet as can be.

The kids stopped going to school,
The mums and dads went to work less.
Then a great, big, giant scrubbing brush
Cleaned the sky and the sea and the mess!

Dads started teaching the sums,
Big brothers played with us more,
Mums were in charge of homework
And we read and played jigsaws galore!

The whole world was washing their hands
And building super toilet roll forts!
Outside was quiet and peaceful,
Now home was the place for all sports.

So we played in the world that was home
And our days filled up with fun and love,
And the germs they grew smaller and smaller
And the sun watched from up above.

Then one morning the sun woke up early,
She smiled and stretched her beams wide.
The world had been fully spring cleaned,
It was time to go back outside!

We opened our doors oh so slowly
And breathed in the clean and fresh air.
We promised thar forever and always
Of this beautiful world we’d take care!

Teaching (facilitating) in Lockdown - 1 week on...

FROM LT;

Mihi nui kia koutou katoa,

My teaching has never been so different in so many ways LOL. I have learnt so much in a short amount of time and secretly actually loving the new way of teaching especially when it comes time for muting, and of course exiting someone from the chat LOL. The support for myself and my students of Te Puna Wairua it has been a blessing as these students need some kind of normality in there lives and this i can see as being another part of normality as they are all very digitally aware.

Heather you have been there since day one you know how Te Puna Wairua feels about you and all your hard work you have put into getting these kids up and running and of course there kaiako.
Ka nui te Mihi

Mā Pango, mā whero, ka oti ai ngā mahi katoa.

I am very appreciative of Heather's support and she has been very active throughout this time to support all of us. Thank you to you Heather and I know she will be available for you to help you out during the holidays. So please contact her if you need support with setting up your sites for hangouts.
