The Love you Give - kindness is a renewable resource.
Kindness-and-Kaitiakitanga

This week I have spread the love and skills I have acquired at DFI to enable my Chromebook classes and iPad classes to share the love.  The empowerment which the students and teachers have embraced this CREATIVE activity has been overwhelming across all of my 7 schools and 17 teachers.  Here are just a couple of examples to SHARE and delight in their LEARNING!

#6.  Connected
          its a way of life
take away the connections and "people" will check out

Manaiakalani connections....

Outreach connections...
22,000 students;
64 schools / 10 Catholic schools / 3+ Kura Kaupapa Maori / 12 secondary schools / x1 area school

Shared language...

Thought provoking - how are you sharing you and your treasures?

Sites
Sites that work well need to be/have

  • easy to navigate
  • clear
  • appealing
  • buttons
  • child-friendly
  • relevant images
  • shortcuts
  • clear message for directing
  • colourful buttons that link to learning
  • clean and clear landing page easy to navigate and know where to go
  • student pictures on the home page
  • site appeal
  • same font and colour used provides consistency and flow for the site

1:1 teachers receiving facilitation support from HC DFI site feedback;

DJ - there was a clear layout and the WALTS were visible.  Generally the use of colours was liked but perhaps they could tie in a bit more to match the HOME page to give more uniformity.  Not everything was accessible e.g. access to documents and links to blogs so perhaps look at the sharing permissions.   Overall Score 3.5/5

HC support...
  • aesthetically use the same colours across the class site
  • check permissions on ALL document - access all areas
  • Class Blog links and individual Student Blogs links

RB - a great start made in getting the site up and running from nothing. Perhaps make the HOME buttons pages larger or even increase the text, add WALT's to the curriculum pages and that all learning is visible and accessible.  Overall Score 2.5/5

HC support...
  • aesthetically use larger text on HOME page
  • add WALTS to curriculum pages relevant to learners
  • check permissions on ALL document - access all areas
  • Student Blogs links
VM - great use of visuals with clear links, but is the HOME page too busy? Timetable could work smarter (as a teacher) by using a spreadsheet.  Check that all links are accessible (Class Blog) and visible for everyone.  Overall Score 3.5/4

HC support...
  • check permissions on ALL document - access all areas
  • Class Blog links

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa
and pedagogy?

Visible is SO important in everything! as is transparency... without engagement which addresses TODAY'S students there can be no expectation of progress happening.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow
as a professional?

Multi-model is digital differentiation, or having a menu that accommodates everyones palate, on view for everyone to choose from. A modern day "pick n mix".

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Not everyone likes surprises - plan for every eventuality, every student and every teacher.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or
workflow in my personal life?

I need to professionally feed my MOTIVATION to feed my facilitation to motivate "others" to maintain engagement for my students to enable accelerated progress to occur.

#4 .

That LEARNING is the foundation stone of the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy...if this is understood, embraced and constantly collaboratively reflected upon it has much more benefit it has long term for student, teacher and whanau.
