The initial feedback about the "Story-Sack" was very positive and caused HUGE interest not only with the specific student, but within the whole whanau. The "S.S" was kept for x5 days and a request followed for other similar stories to be presented in such an interactive way for everyone to enjoy and participate with.
The second home visit of the "Story Sack" took on a journey of x10 days and again caused HUGE involvement across 3 generations of the specifically targeted whanau... The request/suggestion of having a new vocab word to learn in association with the story is a worthy one and one which I will embrace.
Feedback thus far from both whanau's (J.T and F.H) has indicated that with an interactive approach both engagement and progress has been affective in the context of Reading!
Yeah...maybe I'm onto something?? Is this the way forward for G.I?
I am amazed at how your inquiry around Whanau Involvement has morphed from Reading Together, through to Class Dojo and moved onto Story Sacks. Each new and exciting activity you share is drawing a new group of parents into their child’s learning journey. This is so important for our little people, as talking about their learning with others at home, helps them to make sense of it. In my inquiry I am finding that when there is little or no support in home reading, the children tend to share what they know about the book in greater depth than their peers. I look forward to finding out what new twists and turns your inquiry will take.
ReplyDeleteYou're amazed...I'm astounded!! Buckle up; looks like we're in for a rollercoaster ride. Maybe we could target your little people's whanua too either by inviting them in to the "making session" or perhaps as the initial recepients of the next generation sacks?
